Social Impact Fellowships

ESG partners with MIT’s Priscilla King Gray Center for Social Impact (PKG Center) to fund social impact projects outside the confines of the Institute. Awards of up to $7,500 are granted to ESG students to fund projects that:

  • Serve communities in need, either in the United States or abroad.
  • Are conducted during the summer break (June–August).
  • Have a hands–on educational component or involve small–group learning and peer–to–peer teaching.

All interested ESG first–year students, sophomores, or juniors are invited to apply. Recent projects include:

  • Providing chess education for underserved youth in New York City.
  • Developing STEM curricula for schools in rural Oklahoma.
  • Designing an app to assess Black maternal health outcomes.
  • Working to bring education and technology to incarcerated individuals in the Greater Boston area.
  • Creating a voice–to–text–to–braille system to aid the deaf and blind.
  • Building a library for a grade school in Nepal.

You can find a set of guidelines for project proposals on the PKG Center website here.

Applications are due March 17 at 9 am and should be submitted directly to the PKG Center. We strongly encourage you to speak with Bettina McGimsey about any project you are considering.
